I Am RLC: Kate Libra

Posted on

"I Am RLC" is an on-going story series that, over time, will give glimpses of who we are as individuals within the community of Roseville Lutheran Church. Periodically we'll learn from members, friends, and staff about what is important to them, what draws them here, and why they are engaged with and support the RLC community.

Kate Libra
What initially brought you to RLC?

We joined RLC in 2014. We were looking for a church with a good children’s program for our two grandchildren that we were adopting. Even though we were not members, the Children’s Ministry staff were so friendly and welcoming.

How are you currently involved and living out the RLC mission of Love God, love your neighbor?

I am on the Care Team, tutoring at Central Park, greeting at the 11:00 service and working at the Cornerstone desk. I also help care for the plants at church and do some weeding in the gardens outside during the summer.

What is one ministry that is memorable to you?

Cornerstone/Children’s Ministry is what brought us to RLC because it’s so important to get kids involved at an early age by making it a fun experience. It’s great to see so many teens involved in Cornerstone as teachers for the younger kids.

What advice would you give to someone just joining RLC?

Get involved in whatever interests you. It’s a great way to connect with people who share your interests and passions.

What do you hope for the future of RLC?

I hope to see continued and and even greater involvement in community issues.

What is your favorite place to volunteer? Why?

The tutoring program at Central Park is our favorite place to volunteer. We usually do reading with the kids and it’s great to see how they improve and grow throughout the year, especially impressive are the kids who are just learning English. They learn so quickly!

Just for fun

What are your favorite hobbies?

Reading, ice skating, walking, biking and kayaking

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a nurse and work with kids and I ultimately did that my whole career.

If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go?

Definitely go to Norway to see the town where my grandparents came from.
