'Our Neighbors and Me' book discussion groups begin soon

New Opportunity at RLC —“Our Neighbors and Me” book discussion groups in February and March. Retreat with Karen McKinney on March 4, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon.

Have you ever wondered how RLC can serve ALL of its neighbors and be the presence of Christ’s love in our community? What exactly should our role be to ensure that all of God’s children are met with dignity, fairness, and compassion?

A group of RLC members has been meeting informally since last summer to discuss these questions. Roseville and its surrounding communities have experienced dramatic increases in racial and cultural diversity during the past years, and recent events have lent new urgency to the topics of racial justice, especially within our own neighborhoods.

In response to these concerns, RLC will be hosting three reading circles entitled “Our Neighbors and Me” during the months of February and March Each reading group will meet weekly at the church to discuss selected essays from “A Good Time from the Truth: Race in Minnesota,” a recently published anthology of writings from a diverse group of Minnesota authors.

Reading groups will consist of no more than 10 members. Books will be available prior to the start of the reading circles, but it is not necessary to read the book beforehand. Each member should make a strong effort to attend all sessions in order to maintain continuity.

Sign up at the Welcome Desk by Feb. 5 for the book discussion groups. RLC members Dot Probst, Elaine Sime, Marilyn Shardlow and Leon and Alice Neve will coordinate these groups and will be available at the Welcome Desk between services on January 15, 22, 29 and February 5 to answer questions and coordinate registration.
