– Psalm 46:5
I turned on the news this morning, and I was quickly faced with the feeling our world is falling apart at the seams. Natural disasters, a worldwide pandemic, political conflict, racial injustice, and economic problems are sources of chaos and strife everywhere. It was overwhelming, and it was beginning to overwhelm me as I started my day.
Then I turned off the news and just sat quietly for a moment. I began to wonder where I could find peace. I sensed God reminding me to look inward and remember, "It's not about what is around you but who is within you. That's where I am."
When there is turmoil in the world, we tend to focus on those external things. Maybe it helps us feel like we are in control if we are busy doing something about the external problems we see. I know that God is aware that we live in a physical world and that we have responsibilities here. Honoring those responsibilities is part of the kingdom work we are called to do. I also believe that God is always asking us to keep our primary focus on the internal. Start with our own heart first.
We are called to build our inner strength and intentionally trust him each day. I read this recently,
– Holley Gerth
That is a timely encouragement for all of us right now. We have the assurance from Psalm 46:5 that "God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day."
Blessings and light to each of you
